Dirty Dancing Full Movie and Quotes!
I'm sure you've all found this on YouTube, but in case you haven't – full movie here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Ozy7V7An0
So, quotes I'm expecting to hear on 3 Nov:
'She was in the Rockettes you know...'
''Come on ladies: God wouldn't have given you maracas unless he wanted you to shake them!'
'What's she doin here?' 'I carried a watermelon'
'What does he have that I don't have?' 'Two hotels'
'Go back to your playpen, Baby'
'She can't even do the Merengue!' I can't even do the Merengue!!'
'Start on the 2, forward on the 2! Head up! No spaghetti arms! Keep your frame! This is my dance space, and that is your dance space!'
'It's a heartbeat – gu-gum, gu-gum...'
'How did you become a dance teacher?' 'I saw an ad for Arthur Murrays – if you pass the test, they train in you in all sorts of dances!'
'What's your real name, Baby?' 'Frances' 'Frances! That's a very grown-up name.'
'I feel the changes – will the kids want to carry on coming here with their parents to learn the Foxtrot?'
And – of course:
'Nobody puts Baby in the corner!'
I'm planning on teaching Merengue and Mambo and keeping the Time of My LIfe track for a stupid all-in grand finale.... – and we can chuck in a Love is Strange cha cha and some very dirty mambo-jive-grind!! See you all on Monday morn for some Dirty Dancing!

websites from Maz
Complicite - http://www.complicite.org/flash/
dont like this site, too complicated, navigation is to small, things to click are tiny and can't see them
nest collective - http://thenestcollective.co.uk
clear headings, i like moving mouse over things and animations happen - go over some of the bunting. feels like who they are. however the front page is very cluttered with informations, prefer clean opening page and then click to get more info.
Ragroof Theatre - http://www.ragrooftheatre.co.uk/index.php
buttons that move, like the animation. Promoters area is very helpful to me, calls when I am in a field with my hair in rollers means i can give people photos/blurb/tech specs when they need them - we need to be able to upload and change these ourselves though as they change very quickly.
Very Different shows are tied together in the icons on the theatre productions page, black silhouettes, gives a history and a feeeeel to the company.
Tour dates page - funny i can't find any i like really, this one
http://www.onedirection.net/tour-dates/#uk2014 has a filter so we could have a filter on saying show me tour dates in London or Brighton for example. I actually like the lay out of the face book events, where you can have a wee picture beside each event to give it some identity. I like months being clearly seperated as they are on One Directions site. dates need to be good and clear with different colours or fonts to pull out informations like Tea dance Time venue book here
something like this http://www.almeida.co.uk/events/
Social networking needs for our website
able to like on Facebook, twitter, and pinterest
http://www.palais-de-danse.co.uk/
this is similar to what I imagine

Websites
1927: I like the art work and how it ties in with the company. It is immediately clear what they do and who they are. The website is uncluttered and information is easy to find. Some of the links aren't great. The opening page, takes you straight to the calendar of events. This seems like a very good idea for us.
http://www.19-27.co.uk/
Theatre Rites: Another good website, clear and clean this time. But it doesn't look very creative, it could be an events company at first glance. Still I like the uncluttered feel and the easy of navagating around. But perhaps there is too much information on the site.

Forced entertainment has the positives from the two above. Good layout despite a lot of information (though for a company that has such a body of work they have done well to keep the copy so lite). They also have a fun theme, it is a little quirky and interesting as well as being functional.

Mens trousers
Latin trousers. I guess this is the sort of thing we are after?
50s trousers: Jimmy the Stitch costs £75 and here are some photos. What do we think? I think that perhaps they are too 40s
We really want something more like this. No braces, but a think leather belt but with that iconic baggy trousers. I think perhaps this might be discussed in the meeting on Wednesday.
And here are some other options:

Maz backdrop additions
I love the swirls and shapes on this one, very elegance, not sure about the figures at the side, its mainly the big white centre piece and gold swirls I like

Google 'Tea Dance'
I have looked at the first two pages of Google result having searched for 'Tea Dance'. Most results are pretty boring, with out-of-date events on community websites or posts on the website that is hosting a Tea Dance but don't do this activity as their main body of work. There where two websites that dealt with Tea Dance more specifically.
A northern biased company that do vintage events and catering:
http://www.themarvellousteadancecompany.co.uk/
And...a children's Tea Dance company:
http://tdlp.co.uk/
I'm not a fan of either website but it is good to see what other people are doing. Neither are coming from a theatrical angle.
We are 9 out of 10 on the first page. Very good on the whole. This will be effected when we create a new website and archive the old one.

Maz - Pinterest to share images for inspiration?
Hi All,
do you think Pinterest would be a good place to share inspiration for costumes/website visual things?
With Pinterest we can set up a page and 'pin' to it an image from one website, an image from another etc, so they are grouped on the same page - like a collage, A blog we will be scrolling down and can't group images together, they may be separated by a post about something else.
I have set us up an account, you can log on using ~

Fonts and Missions
Hello All!
Here's the new blog for us to share ideas about The Ragroof Players.
The aim is to start a process of sharing ideas on our 'brand', and thus to share and discuss proposals on such things as the visual identity of the company; the things we would like to say about the company in marketing and PR material; the sort of website we would like; the type of images we'd like to use etc etc.
So, to start the ball rolling a few words on fonts. I've set this blog up in 'Georgia' which is a favourite of mine for the following reasons: it is recognised by all browsers/computers so text won't get transposed or muddled on older browsers/computers; it is a a serif font which is easier to read than sans-serif fonts (such as Arial); it's stylish in a pleasantly old-fashioned way.
Your thoughts?
Also, here's a kind of 'mission statement plus' reworked from the recent news release – see what you think:

The Ragroof Players create performance projects and bespoke events that
celebrate social dance and popular theatre, both contemporary and historic.
Having worked together for
many years as Ragroof Theatre, five of the six company members are re-grouping
as The Ragroof Players, and
enthusiastically moving into a new phase with a clear focus on projects, both
new and existing, that explore the artistic possibilities of social dance and
popular theatre forms such as vaudeville, cabaret, comedy dance, and street
arts.
For 2013, we are continuing
to offer the ever-popular Ragroof Tea Dances; a wide variety of dance and vaudeville Cabaret routines; bespoke Balls, Parties & Specially
Themed Events; as well as the highly
successful street theatre show Shall We Dance? Encore! which is
now also offered as an indoor show, site-specific to dancehalls and ballrooms.
We will also continue to
offer workshops and residencies in all forms of social and popular dance,
including Ballroom, Latin, Swing, Charleston, Music Hall, Eccentric/Comedy
dance and many other forms.
Company members are also
available to be booked as DJs, dance teachers, performers, and choreographers.
